Larnaca, Cyprus. A 30-year-old man suspected of attempted murder following a stabbing in Larnaca has been remanded in custody for eight days by the Larnaca district court. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Court decision and allegations
The Larnaca district court ruled on Tuesday that there is reasonable suspicion linking the suspect to the offences under investigation. The defence did not object to the police request for remand.
The suspect is being investigated for attempted murder, drug trafficking, and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
Details of the incident
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when a 32-year-old man was allegedly attacked with a knife. The victim sustained serious injuries and remains in the intensive care unit at Larnaca general hospital, though doctors say he is now out of danger.
Police also allege the suspect took the victim’s mobile phone during the attack.
Arrest and evidence
Police said the suspect was arrested in the north on Monday and was handed over to the authorities following coordination through the bicommunal contact group.
His vehicle was later found abandoned in Vrysoules, in the Famagusta district near the British bases.
As part of the investigation, police carried out a search of the victim’s apartment, seizing 6.5 grams of crystal meth, a grinder with traces of cannabis, two precision scales and €300 in cash.
