Larnaca, Cyprus. A 24-year-old woman was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison by the Larnaca criminal court after being found guilty of drug trafficking involving cocaine importation.
Drug discovery at Larnaca airport
The case concerned the importation of 890g of cocaine. Police said the drugs were uncovered last October after receiving information that a woman arriving on a flight from abroad was concealing narcotics on her body.
The woman was stopped for inspection shortly after landing at Larnaca airport on October 21, where packages containing 540g of cocaine were found in her possession.
Medical examinations and additional seizure
She was arrested and subjected to medical and radiological examinations, which revealed additional packages concealed internally. While hospitalised, she expelled 35 packets containing a further 350g of cocaine.
Remand and sentencing
On October 28, she was discharged from hospital and remanded in custody by court order while the case was investigated. On Tuesday morning, the criminal court sentenced her to six years in prison for drug importation.
