Larnaca signs €6.38 million contract to build central bus station in marina area

Larnaca, Cyprus. A contract worth €6.38 million plus VAT for the construction of Larnaca’s central bus station was signed on Monday at the transport ministry. Work on the project is expected to begin around mid-May 2026.

Project scope and location

The transport ministry said the project is intended to upgrade public transport and promote sustainable urban mobility in the Larnaca district. The station will be built on state-owned land in the marina area, a location selected to provide sufficient space for infrastructure development, improve traffic organisation and integrate with wider developments in the area.

Role in mobility planning

According to the ministry, the decision to proceed followed the preparation of Larnaca’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which identified the central bus station as a core component among measures aimed at improving public transport.

Services and connections

Designed as a modern interchange hub, the station will serve urban, intercity and regional routes and provide direct connections to Larnaca airport. The ministry said the project aims to reduce reliance on private cars and contribute to national and European sustainable mobility targets.

Contract signing and funding

The contract was signed on behalf of the Republic by acting director of the Public Works Department Stelios Zervos and on behalf of Iacovou Group Ltd by Alkis Iacovou. The project is being implemented under the Thaleia 2021-2027 cohesion policy programme, co-funded by the European Union.

Expected impact

The ministry said the new station is expected to become a key reference point for mobility in Larnaca, easing traffic congestion and enhancing quality of life.
