Larnaca, Cyprus. Larnaca on Wednesday welcomed the baton of the 23rd Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 as part of the international route of the King’s Baton Relay.
Municipality and Cyprus Olympic Committee cooperation
Larnaca mayor Andreas Vyras said cooperation between the municipality and the Cyprus Olympic Committee was excellent and that the municipality wished to assist the committee’s efforts to strengthen the Olympic spirit.
Significance of hosting the relay
Vyras described hosting the King’s Baton Relay as a special honour for the city and highlighted the importance of sport in promoting culture and social cohesion, and in spreading the Olympic ideal.
Relay tradition
Under the tradition of the games, the King’s Baton Relay passes through all Commonwealth countries, accompanied by events and actions that promote the values of sport, cooperation and unity of peoples.
