Lease details challenge MEP Fidias Panayiotou’s claim about Limassol property use

Limassol, Cyprus. A lease obtained by Daily Politis indicates that a property in Polemidia, Limassol, is designated for owner occupancy, challenging MEP Fidias Panayiotou’s assertion that he uses it as office space. Panayiotou has denied wrongdoing and said European Parliament funds contribute to the rent.

Lease obtained by Daily Politis

Daily Politis reported it had obtained the lease for the property, describing it as a four-bedroom house with a swimming pool and a garden. The lease explicitly states that the property is to be used for owner occupancy.

MEP’s response and funding details

After allegations emerged last month that Panayiotou used European Parliament funds to support a lavish lifestyle, he responded in a TikTok video denying any wrongdoing. He said the property is office space used by him and his team to film podcasts and that he had informed the European Parliament.

Panayiotou said the monthly rent is €2,300, with €1,600 paid by the European Parliament and €700 covered by him.

Separate residence and election claim

Panayiotou said he lives with his fiancée in a separate rented property in Limassol costing €1,200 per month, which they pay for themselves. He described the allegations as a smear campaign “because elections are coming up” and said the claims were “fake news.”

What do you think the lease terms mean for the dispute over how the Limassol property is used?
