Limassol, Cyprus. Major technology conferences, international business events and the growing presence of foreign companies have helped cushion the impact of weaker leisure tourism in Limassol, according to Cyprus Hoteliers Association president Christos Tsanos. Separately, Cyprus outlined progress under its Presidency of the Council of the European Union and will host a workshop on reducing electricity costs.
Business tourism supports Limassol hotels
In an interview with Entrepreneurial Limassol, a publication of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evel), Tsanos said conference and business tourism had softened the effect of reduced leisure travel.
He expressed cautious optimism that the market could gradually recover following the end of the regional conflict. However, he said the improvement came later than the industry had hoped because visitors to Cyprus and Limassol typically decide on holidays well in advance.
Developments during February and March weighed heavily on the tourism sector, Tsanos said, causing Limassol to lose a significant share of its market before conditions began to improve.
EU presidency record
Finance Minister Makis Keravnos said Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union had contributed to progress on major legislative files concerning the economy and public finances.
Presenting the presidency’s record in areas under his ministry’s responsibility, Keravnos said it also helped strengthen the competitiveness of the European economy, advance customs reform, deepen capital markets, enhance tax cooperation and support Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference, he described the six-month presidency as highly demanding and exceptionally productive.
Keravnos said Cyprus assumed the rotating presidency during a period of severe geopolitical instability, including the war in Ukraine, the conflict in Gaza, developments across the Middle East and their consequences for Europe’s economy and energy security.
He said the circumstances required the European Union to take decisions strengthening competitiveness and resilience. The Cypriot presidency placed sustainable growth, fiscal stability and the bloc’s strategic autonomy at the centre of discussions within the Economic and Financial Affairs Council.
Electricity cost workshop
The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev) will host a high-level workshop on July 15, 2026, at 14:00 at its headquarters in Nicosia on the need to reduce electricity costs in Cyprus.
