Limassol, Cyprus. The Limassol Carnival will conclude on Sunday with an expanded parade and a closing outdoor celebration featuring a drone show. Thousands of people are expected to attend the main parade starting at 1pm.
Main parade route and participants
The main parade will begin at 1pm along Archbishop Makarios III avenue and will include 115 participating groups. Municipal cultural officer Skevi Antoniadou said it would be “an impressive parade and a spectacular farewell,” adding that the finale would see “everyone turn their eyes to the sky”.
As in previous years, musical groups will lead the procession, followed by percussion ensembles, cheerleaders, the municipal philharmonic, the mayor, and the Carnival Queen with her entourage.
Satirical floats and themes
Antoniadou said this year’s carnival places particular emphasis on satirical floats addressing political and everyday issues, including traffic.
Economic impact and visitor demand
Antoniadou said the carnival provides a significant economic boost, supporting costume makers, designers, performers and street vendors. She said hotels are fully booked during the period.
Rules and city preparations
Antoniadou said the Limassol Carnival is “for all of Cyprus” and urged visitors not to spoil the festivities and to avoid foam and spray products, which are prohibited. She also praised municipal cleaning crews, who work throughout the night to ensure the city is clean by Green Monday.
Closing celebration and drone show
The closing outdoor celebration will take place at 9pm at the old port square, where 700 drones will stage a show.
