Limassol Carnival to run Feb. 12-22 under theme ‘Limassol madness’, mayor says

Limassol, Cyprus. Limassol will hold its carnival celebrations from February 12 to 22 under the theme ‘Limassol madness’, Mayor Yiannis Armeftis said on Wednesday. He said the carnival would be presented as more dynamic, renewed and enriched.

Focus on tradition and cultural character

Speaking at the event’s official press conference, Armeftis said the municipality had placed particular emphasis on upgrading the festivities by strengthening their historical and cultural character. He said this would include a renewed focus on traditional elements such as satyr floats, pellomaska (“crazy masks”), handmade costumes and the grand dances central to the spirit of the Limassol carnival.

Events across the city

Armeftis said the festivities will take place throughout the city and its surrounding neighbourhoods, with a variety of events planned.

Carnival queen introduced

Armeftis introduced this year’s queen of the Limassol carnival, Amaryllis Kyriakou, and commended her year-long contribution and dedication to the institution, as well as her creative drive. Kyriakou invited the public to experience the celebration up close and said she hoped this year’s carnival would be “happier, brighter and more fun than ever.” She said she would continue the work of previous kings and would do her best so that people could experience an unforgettable carnival.

Television series filming and theme song

Marija Savina, head of production company Screentale Cyprus, said her team would film a pilot episode for the international television series ‘My Aphrodite’ during the grand carnival parade on February 22. Savina also presented the Greek version of the song “Life is a Carnival”, which had been released in English in 2025 and was chosen as the theme song for this year’s carnival celebrations.
