Limassol, Cyprus. The Limassol district government announced on Tuesday that it has completed the installation of 80,000 smart water meters. The devices can monitor water use in real time and detect leaks.
Project scope
The 80,000 smart meters account for more than half of the total number of water meters overseen by Limassol.
Functions and expected impact
According to the district government, the new meters will help detect potential leaks and unusual water consumption patterns, monitor the water supply network, provide more reliable data for decision-making and support water conservation.
In a statement, the Limassol government said the use of technology is a key tool for protecting a precious natural resource and creating better services for residents.
Funding
The project received €12 million from a €13 million European Union Recovery and Resilience Fund grant allocated in January 2023.
Official assessment
The Limassol government described the completion of the project as a significant step toward a more efficient, sustainable and digital water management system.
