Limassol hotel lobby features lifelike artificial flowers supplied through monthly refresh service

Limassol, Cyprus. A boutique hotel lobby in Limassol is drawing attention for its bright floral displays that resemble fresh flowers but do not wilt, require water, or trigger allergens.

Floral Image supplies the arrangements, with customers selecting a design and receiving deliveries every month to keep spaces looking lively without the maintenance associated with traditional flowers.

“I wanted to build a sustainable business that genuinely makes people happier, and when the opportunity presented itself with Floral Image, I took it because it aligned with that purpose,” said Carine Khoury, franchise owner of Floral Image in Cyprus.

Environmental findings

Khoury said her aim is to combine beauty, convenience and environmental responsibility for businesses seeking elegant interiors, describing the replica flowers as a greener option.

An analysis commissioned by Floral Image compared the environmental impact of lifelike artificial arrangements and conventional fresh-cut flowers, and the findings challenged widely held beliefs.

The analysis noted that fresh-cut flowers are often sourced from countries including Kenya, Colombia and the Netherlands, and require water, pesticides, fertilizers and refrigerated transport. It said that when production, packaging, weekly replacements and disposal are included, fresh flowers produce about 80 times more greenhouse gases than high-quality artificial arrangements refreshed monthly.

Use cycle and practical benefits

The monthly refresh system was cited as central to the sustainability benefit, with each arrangement remaining in place for an entire month before a new design is delivered, compared with fresh flowers that are generally replaced every week.

Over its usable life, one arrangement goes through many cycles, spreading its environmental footprint over more weeks of use than fresh-cut flowers, the analysis said, and concluding that professionally refreshed artificial arrangements have a significantly lower environmental impact than traditional flowers.

The arrangements are also described as allergen-free, requiring no water and creating no mess, and each display is treated with a special antimicrobial coating intended to provide long-lasting protection.

How do you assess the trade-offs between fresh-cut flowers and professionally refreshed artificial arrangements for your space?
