Limassol restaurant fined after seizure of 7kg of duty-free tobacco

Limassol, Cyprus. A restaurant offering hookah services was fined after customs officers seized 7kg of duty-free tobacco during a routine inspection, police said on Friday. The owner also lacked the required licences to sell tobacco and alcohol.

Customs inspection

The Limassol Customs Investigation Branch carried out the search on Thursday.

Officers confiscated the tobacco and arrested the owner on customs-related offences.

Out-of-court settlement

The case was settled out of court after the owner agreed to pay €3,200. The owner was released following the settlement.

The confiscated tobacco will be destroyed under customs procedures for smuggled products.
