Low-pressure system brings showers, thunderstorms and snow to Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus. A low-pressure system is continuing to affect Cyprus, bringing unsettled weather across the island. Showers, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall at higher elevations are expected through midweek.


Sunday forecast

Skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms initially affecting the western half of the island and mountainous areas, gradually extending to inland and northern regions. Hail is likely in thunderstorms, while snowfall is expected over the highest peaks of Troodos.

Temperatures are forecast to reach around 19°C inland and in southern and eastern coastal areas, about 18°C along the western and northern coasts, and around 6°C in the higher mountains.

Overnight conditions

Conditions are expected to turn partly cloudy, with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible in coastal areas, particularly in the west. Later and into the early morning hours, patchy mist or fog is expected to form locally, especially inland and in eastern areas.

Temperatures are forecast to drop to around 5°C inland, 9°C along the southern and eastern coasts, 11°C in the west and north, and close to zero in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday

From Monday through Wednesday, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with intervals of localised showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may accompany thunderstorms, while snowfall or sleet is expected over the highest peaks of Troodos.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through midweek, remaining close to or slightly below seasonal averages.
