Lufthansa suspends flights to several Middle East destinations until March 8, 2026 after strikes on Iran

Frankfurt, Germany. Lufthansa Group has suspended all flight operations to several major Middle Eastern destinations until at least March 8, 2026, citing regional aviation disruption following military strikes on Iran. The carrier said passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.

Suspended and cancelled routes

Lufthansa confirmed the immediate suspension of services to Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, Erbil, and Tehran. Flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Dammam have been cancelled through the weekend, with possible extensions as security assessments continue.

Airspace closures after strikes

The move follows overnight U.S. and Israeli air strikes on Iran, which prompted a cascading closure of airspace across Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, Lufthansa said.

Disruption at German hubs

The suspension has disrupted operations at Lufthansa’s primary hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. By Sunday midday, more than 60 flights had been cancelled at German airports, according to industry data from Cirium.

Rerouting to Asia

Long-haul flights to India and Southeast Asia are being rerouted to avoid affected flight information regions in the Gulf. Lufthansa said the adjustments have added up to 90 minutes and 800 kilometres to travel times, increasing fuel consumption.
