London, United Kingdom. French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in London on Sunday, the Elysee said.
The statement said the meeting would allow the leaders to continue close coordination on support for Ukraine and on increasing pressure on Russia’s war effort.
Meeting in London
According to the Elysee, the talks are due to take place in London. The statement said Russia was facing military, economic and strategic failure and was persisting unsuccessfully on the front lines in a deadly war.
Ukraine seeks stronger European efforts
Zelenskiy wants European leaders to step up efforts to help bring an end to the war in Ukraine and is concerned that U.S. President Donald Trump is distracted by Iran.
In an open letter published on Thursday, Zelenskiy urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet him to agree an end to more than four years of war.
Macron backs direct negotiations
Macron said on Friday that direct negotiations between Ukraine and the Kremlin had always been supported.
He said Ukraine and Russia could build both a ceasefire and a peace plan, and that Europeans could help with this.
