Man arrested in Limassol after alleged assault on officers; drugs and cash seized

Limassol, Cyprus. A 33-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening in Limassol after allegedly failing to stop for police, attempting to flee and assaulting officers, police said. Officers said a search found cannabis, methamphetamine and cash.

Attempted stop and pursuit

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm while police officers on patrol signalled a cyclist to stop for a check, according to police. Police said the cyclist tried to escape, initially fleeing on his bicycle before falling and continuing on foot, and was stopped a short distance away.

Alleged assault and arrest

Police said the man attacked and pushed the officers, who restrained and arrested him on the spot on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and resisting lawful arrest.

Drugs and cash seized

Police said a subsequent search found 26 packages containing cannabis with a gross weight of 20 grams, 19 packages containing methamphetamine with a gross weight of 9 grams, and €442 in cash.

Remand and investigation

Following the discovery, the man was remanded on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply. Police said he remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations, and that inquiries are continuing under Limassol police.
