Man arrested in north over Larnaca stabbing, police say

Larnaca, Cyprus. Police said a 30-year-old man has been arrested in the north in connection with a stabbing in Larnaca last week. The case is being treated as attempted murder, Larnaca police head Giorgos Charalambous said.


Arrest and handover

Charalambous said the man was arrested following action taken by the bicommunal technical committee on crime and has been handed over to the Republic of Cyprus police. He said the suspect is in custody and is expected to appear in court.

Vehicle found in Famagusta district

Charalambous said the man’s vehicle was found abandoned in a village in the Famagusta district.

Victim’s condition

The victim, a 32-year-old man, is being treated in an intensive care unit but is out of danger, according to Charalambous.

Search of victim’s home

Charalambous said a search of the 32-year-old’s home in Larnaca found 6.5 grams of a crystalline substance, a bottle containing traces of a crystalline substance, a grinder with traces of cannabis, a plastic container with traces of a white substance, two precision scales, and €300 in cash.

Investigation ongoing

Police said the investigation is continuing.
