March rainfall reaches 182% of normal, met office says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Rainfall in March was almost double the usual amount for this time of year, reaching 182 per cent, the met office said on Tuesday. Data showed 112.5mm fell from March 1 to March 30, compared with an average monthly rainfall of 61.9mm.

According to the met office’s data, rainfall in the period from March 1 to March 30 amounted to 112.5mm, compared with an average monthly rainfall of 61.9mm.

Highest rainfall areas

The Paphos villages Stavros tis Psokas and Pano Panagia, as well as regions in the Troodos including Platania and Saittas, received the highest amount of rainfall during the month.

Top recorded amounts

The largest amount of rainfall during the period was recorded in Stavros tis Psokas with 253 millimeters, corresponding to 217 per cent of normal for the month. This was followed by Saittas with 179.5 millimeters, around 215 per cent of its normal.

Other notable readings

Pano Panagia recorded 204.5 millimeters of rain, or 200 per cent of its average rainfall. In Platania, total rainfall stood at 201.5 millimeters, 179 per cent of its average monthly rainfall in March.
