Municipality of Limassol plans to clean the coastal waters

The discussion was sparked up by the reports about contamination of the sea with refuse water. Mayor of Limassol Nicos Nicolaides said that the reason for contamination are the moored ships.

Now, it was ruled that the port authority must install sewerage tanks for contaminated water from the ships. However, it is a temporary solution. In the future, these tanks will be connected directly to the Limassol sewerage system.

In the meantime, the Port management will conduct a range of checks and municipal ships will clear the coastal waters from contamination.
