Los Gatos, United States. Netflix is releasing a feature film adaptation of Remarkably Bright Creatures, a four-episode streaming adaptation of Lord of the Flies, and a live comedy special titled The Roast of Kevin Hart.
Remarkably Bright Creatures film adaptation
Remarkably Bright Creatures is arriving on Netflix as a feature film based on Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling novel. The story centres on Tova, a widow working night shifts at an aquarium, who forms an unlikely bond with a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus.
The narrative focuses on grief, loneliness and the process of rebuilding life after loss. A mystery connected to Tova’s past is gradually uncovered through her connection with the octopus and a drifter searching for family.
The octopus character is voiced by Alfred Molina.
Lord of the Flies streaming series
Lord of the Flies is getting its first-ever streaming adaptation on Netflix as a four-episode series. It follows a group of schoolboys stranded on an island who attempt to organise themselves before descending into tribalism and violence.
Creator Jack Thorne has framed the new version as a modern reflection on masculinity, isolation and social breakdown. The cast is largely made up of newcomers.
The Roast of Kevin Hart live special
The Roast of Kevin Hart is a live comedy special centred around Kevin Hart being roasted by a lineup of comedians. The live broadcast format adds unpredictability.
Netflix has been increasing its live programming, and roasts are positioned as a fit for the format. The special follows a familiar roast structure of pointed jokes, reactions, and a closing speech.
