New eco ashtrays for Larnaca beaches

Пляж Ларнаки

New eco ashtrays will be installed on 10 most popular Larnaca beaches, which had been awarded a Blue Flag earlier.

The initiative was offered by the organization for the development and promotion of tourism in Larnaca in cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) and the municipality of Larnaca.

According to the official data, more than 5 trillion cigarette butts, left on the beaches, pollute the environment every year and is the main cause for deterioration of sand quality. One cigarette butt thrown into the sea pollutes 8 cubic meters of water. It also takes 5 to 10 years for the cigarette filter to decompose, which is also related to the release of chemicals into the water.
