Nicosia, Cyprus. Former president Nicos Anastasiades said on Wednesday that he will withdraw from his roles within Disy for the duration of any investigation launched into allegations of abuse of power against him by the anti-corruption authority. He said he would return once his name is cleared.
Statement on party role
Anastasiades said he had contacted Disy leader Annita Demetriou and informed her of his intention to abstain from meetings of the party’s collective bodies until the matter is clarified.
Reason for withdrawal
He said he would not allow anyone to believe they could harm the party, of which he said he was a co-founder and had served with dedication for the past 50 years.
