Nicosia, Cyprus. Nicosia held its annual LGBT pride parade on Saturday, with participants marching through the capital’s streets toward the municipal garden in the early evening. The event was the first LGBT pride parade in Cyprus to be held without single-use plastic.
Annual event in the capital
The parade has been held every year since 2014, except for a break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Other pride events in Cyprus
It is typically one of three LGBT pride parades held in Cyprus. The north holds its own parade in May each year, while a bicommunal LGBT pride event typically takes place later in the summer.
Plastic-free initiative
Saturday’s event was organised by Accept-LGBTI Cyprus, which introduced reusable drinking cups. The cups were sold to attendees for €2 each.
