Nicosia, Cyprus. COSMOS Insurance and the Municipality of Nicosia have launched an initiative to support stray cats through organised feeding points and designated feeding areas across the city.
Coordinated feeding system in municipal districts
The company and the Municipality of Nicosia installed 21 feeders across all municipal districts. Two organised feeding areas were also created at the Pedieos River area and Olympiadas Park.
Volunteer role in operations
The project’s operation relies on volunteers, who undertake the implementation of a controlled, clean feeding system designed for this purpose.

The initiative is described as going beyond food provision, with organised feeding areas based on a philosophy of responsible care that combines food distribution with health supervision.
Context and statement
The initiative comes amid estimates that Cyprus’s stray cat population exceeds the number of residents. Kyriakos Tyllis, CEO and Executive Member of the Board of COSMOS Insurance, said that “our behaviour toward animals is a measure of civilisation”.
