Nigel Farage says he will resign seat to trigger by-election and seek re-election

London, United Kingdom. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said on Tuesday that he would resign as a lawmaker to trigger a by-election in his parliamentary seat and stand for re-election. He said he wanted his constituents to decide whether they still wanted him to represent them.

Announcement and campaign message

Farage made the announcement at the end of a televised statement in which he criticised press intrusion into his family life and said the political establishment was doing all it could to hinder his party.

He said the contest would be “a people versus the establishment by-election” and added that he would fight to win and continue what he described as the political revolution started by Reform.

Scrutiny over finances

Farage has come under heavy scrutiny over his finances in recent months. He said the by-election would allow voters in his constituency to decide whether they still wanted him as their lawmaker.
