Oev says Cyprus remains safe for investment and tourism amid regional developments

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev) said Cyprus remains a safe and reliable destination for international investment, business activity and quality tourism following a review of regional developments.

Executive committee review and priorities

Oev said its executive committee met to assess regional developments and stated that maintaining stability, security and the smooth functioning of the economy is a top priority and a collective responsibility for the country.

The federation said the resilience of the Cypriot economy has been tested in recent years under extremely adverse conditions and has proven strong institutionally, operationally and organisationally against crises and geopolitical upheaval.

Challenges for tourism-linked sectors and exporters

The federation said sectors linked to tourism and companies exporting to Gulf countries and the wider Middle East, including pharmaceutical industries, are currently facing challenges. It said these challenges will be addressed with prudence, calmness and effectiveness.

Public messaging on safety

The executive committee called on regular people to help clarify the real situation regarding the country’s safety and to correct misperceptions that spread internationally during the early days of the military operations in the region.

Oev said it is possible to lower the tone in public dialogue, return discussion to everyday issues and creative priorities, and return as quickly as possible to normality.

EU meetings and planned Brussels talks

The federation urged the immediate restoration of the programme of European Union meetings and activities in Cyprus that were postponed during the early stages of the crisis.

Oev said the postponements were based on an incorrect assessment of risk and an exaggeration of the situation during the first days of the crisis, adding that Oev president George Pantelides will raise the issue personally in Brussels during meetings scheduled for March 18, 2026.

How do you think Cyprus can best address international misperceptions about its safety?
