Larnaca, Cyprus. A one-eyed male cat named Bibi has gone missing during air transport from Larnaca to an overseas destination via Athens, prompting an urgent investigation, according to the Ecologists Movement.
Disappearance reported during transit
In a statement, the Ecologists Movement said Bibi disappeared between departure from Larnaca airport and transit through Athens airport, despite being transported in an approved crate that had been “fully insured and checked before disembarkation” with “additional measures taken to exclude any possibility of escape”.
The loss was discovered upon arrival at the final destination, where the group said that “while there were two cats in the crate, only one was delivered,” raising concerns over handling procedures during transit.
Investigation focuses on Larnaca and Athens
The most likely points at which Bibi could have been lost were identified as Larnaca Airport or Athens airport, with investigations already underway.
Animal action group coordinator Anthi Mouzouri said “all involved bodies should immediately proceed with a thorough investigation of the incident and help find him,” adding that initial efforts to locate the animal were “positive”.
Similar incident cited
The group said the incident was not without precedent, noting that in September 2025 another cat, Mika, went missing under similar circumstances at Larnaca airport and was located about nine days later.
Describing the case as “particularly serious and worrying”, the group cautioned that such incidents “put the lives of animals transported under the responsibility of competent services and companies at immediate risk”.
Public appeal for information
An appeal was issued to the public for any information regarding Bibi’s whereabouts, particularly within the Larnaca airport area.
