Overnight police patrols across Cyprus lead to seven arrests and hundreds of checks

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police carried out coordinated, targeted patrols across Cyprus overnight, leading to seven arrests as part of efforts to prevent serious crime and enhance public safety.


Arrests and public order operations

Police said the intensified presence was evident across urban areas nationwide, with officers focusing on key locations to maintain public order and strengthen citizens’ sense of security. The seven arrests were made for offences including burglary and theft, illegal possession of a knife, domestic violence, and assault against a police officer.

Vehicle, individual and premises checks

During the operations, officers stopped 418 vehicles for inspection and checked 608 individuals travelling in them. Police also inspected 33 premises, filing three reports.

Traffic enforcement measures

Traffic enforcement formed a significant part of the operations, with police issuing 195 fines for various violations and identifying six cases under investigation related to road offences. Four vehicles were impounded as part of ongoing inquiries. Among the violations recorded, 36 involved speeding. A total of 68 drivers were tested for alcohol consumption, while one driver was checked for drug use, and one individual was reported for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Ongoing policing plans

Police said coordinated operations will continue daily, with enhanced presence, targeted checks and immediate intervention aimed at preventing crime, protecting the public and upholding law and order.
