Papadakis hands over phone for forensic review after Drousiotis allegations

Nicosia, Cyprus. Former Edek MEP Demetris Papadakis said he has handed over his mobile phone for forensic examination following allegations by investigative journalist Makarios Drousiotis, with results expected soon. He said the findings should be forwarded directly to police.

Phone submitted to forensic expert

Speaking on Politis radio, Papadakis said he had already delivered his device to a recognised forensic expert and insisted that the findings be sent directly to police authorities. “Whatever the result, it should be handed over to the police-chief,” he said.

Drousiotis’ disclosures and claims

The allegations follow public disclosures by Drousiotis, who says he holds extensive documentation, including messages and audiovisual material, collected over several years regarding high-ranking officials in Cyprus. Those named include Papadakis, former president Nicos Anastasiades and attorney-general George Savvides, as well as an accusation against former supreme court judge Michalakis Christodoulou of sexual misconduct.
Drousiotis has linked his findings to what he described as a secretive cabal and “a structured system operating across sectors”. He claims Papadakis and Christodoulou were in close communication and that Papadakis had prior knowledge of government decisions.

Papadakis denies relationship and message exchanges

Papadakis said he has used the same phone since 2019, the period referenced in messages published by Drousiotis. He categorically denied any relationship with Christodoulou, saying he has never met him and that Christodoulou’s number is not stored on his phone. Asked how his name could appear in the material presented, Papadakis dismissed the claims as fabricated and said he would not engage with what he described as “pure fiction”.

What do you think the forensic examination will clarify about the allegations?
