Pecs, Hungary. The Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evep) took part in the second meeting of the European programme EnoGastroDest-Interreg Europe, held in Pecs. The chamber said it was represented by officers Stefanos Hadjioannou and Natasa Demetriou.

The chamber reported that 11 partners from various European countries are participating in the project, with Evep listed among the key partners.

Focus on preserving eno-culinary heritage

The initiative emphasises preserving and promoting eno-culinary heritage as a foundation for developing experiential and sustainable cultural tourism in wine and gastronomy tourism (WGT) across European wine-growing and agricultural regions.

Wine and gastronomy tourism definition

Wine and gastronomy tourism is described as an industry in which visitors travel to destinations to enjoy unique wine and food experiences tailored to each location. The sector has seen significant growth in recent years, creating opportunities for further development.

Gastronomy tourism and eno-tourism activities

Gastronomy tourism is characterised by visitor experiences linked to food and related products, including authentic, traditional, and innovative culinary activities such as visits to local producers, participation in food festivals, and attendance at cooking classes. Eno-tourism focuses on visits to vineyards and wineries, where visitors can taste, learn about, consume, and purchase wine, often at or near its place of origin.

Overall project objective

The project’s overall objective is to preserve and promote viticulture and culinary heritage and apply it to the development and promotion of WGT as a form of experiential cultural tourism.
