Paphos, Cyprus. A 26-year-old man was sentenced to prison on Friday after the Paphos district court found him guilty of a November 2023 hit-and-run fatal accident in which 33-year-old Goga Partsvania from Georgia died.
Court ruling and penalties
The court imposed concurrent sentences of 12 months and 14 months for causing death due to reckless driving and abandoning the scene of the accident. His driver’s licence was suspended for 12 months and he received eight penalty points.
Details of the crash
The accident happened just after midnight on November 5, 2023, on Ikaros street in Paphos. Partsvania was crossing the road when he was hit by a car, and the driver fled, leaving his car at the scene.
Emergency response and later admission
Partsvania was taken by ambulance to Paphos general hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. At around 2.15am the same day, the 26-year-old returned to the scene and told police he was the driver.
