Paphos, Cyprus. Police reported 23 people during a targeted operation against the illegal use of electric scooters and other personal mobility devices along the Paphos seafront on Tuesday evening.
Enforcement operation
Twenty people were cited for various violations. Three were reported for riding scooters on the pedestrian walkway, where their use is prohibited, and their scooters were confiscated.
The operation forms part of a campaign by Paphos municipality and traffic police to enforce legislation on personal mobility devices and improve road safety.
Further checks planned
Authorities said further targeted operations are planned, focusing on riders and rental companies that do not hold municipal permits.
Since the start of 2026, 132 violations involving personal mobility devices have been recorded in the Paphos district.
Rules for scooter use
Authorities reminded the public that privately owned electric scooters may be used only on roads with speed limits of up to 30km/h, in cycle lanes and in designated shared pedestrian and cyclist areas.
Scooter use is prohibited in pedestrian streets and squares unless specific permission has been granted.
