Paphos tourism board joins Erasmus+ I-DEMO project on digital tourism and gamification

Paphos, Cyprus. The Paphos regional tourism board (Etap) said it is participating as a partner in the European Erasmus+ programme I-DEMO to strengthen the district’s position as a smart tourism destination.


Training meeting in the Netherlands

Etap said it is taking part in an educational meeting in Breda, Netherlands, coordinated by Breda University, from March 30 to April 2, 2026.

Focus on digital tools and gamification

According to the board, partners will be trained in digital techniques and tools and will examine in practice how gamification is created and how it contributes to the overall tourism experience.

Project scope and objectives

The project includes nine partners from seven European countries and aims to strengthen digital transformation in tourism through skills development, digital readiness, and resilience.

Green and digital transition

Etap said the project contributes to the twin transition, both green and digital, to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of European destinations.

Empowering tourism organisations and service providers

The I-DEMO programme focuses on empowering tourism service providers and destination management organisations through innovative approaches in digital tourism and the use of gamification, with the aim of upgrading the tourism experience, enhancing visitor interaction, and creating a meaningful connection with the destination.

How gamification is described

Gamification was described as a tool that allows visitors to co-create their experience, strengthening engagement and emotional connection with the location. It is based on psychological needs including autonomy, a sense of competence, and social connection, to create experiences with increased value and authenticity.

Main project pillars

The main pillars of the project are destination management, tourism experience management, tourism marketing, and tourism services management.
