Paphos, Cyprus. Phos has opened above Ayios Georgios harbour as one of the latest additions to the Paphos dining scene, following redevelopment of the area in recent years. The restaurant is part of the Cap St George hotel and offers sea views through large picture windows.
Location and access
The area above the harbour has undergone major redevelopment, including the demolition of a former taverna and refurbishment of the entire plateau. Access to the restaurant was described as unclear due to a lack of signs indicating openings to enter, with only a “Phos” sign noting its connection to the Cap St George hotel.
Interior and views
Inside, the restaurant features a subtle design with extensive use of stone and wood. Large picture windows provide views of the sea and surrounding landscape, including a view looking down on the Akamas.
Menu and pricing
The printed menu is divided into premium starters, salads, hot and cold starters, and mains, featuring Mediterranean options. Listed prices are: starters from €7, hot starters from €14, salads from €14, mains from €20, sides from €6, and desserts from €12.
Food ordered and portions
A selection of house spreads included Tzatziki, Taramas, Spicy Feta and Charred Eggplant, served with pitta bread. For the main course, Greek Giouvetsi was ordered, described as slow-cooked beef cheeks with smoked Greek Metsovone cheese, served with orzo pasta in a copper dish and a tomato sauce. A calamari starter with breadcrumbs was served with lime and sweet chilli mayonnaise, along with a side dish that was changed from broccolini to broccoli.
Service, minor issues, and plans
The restaurant was described as having attentive staff and generous portion sizes. The mayonnaise served with the calamari was described as lacking spice, and the broccoli side arrived without the described lemon-infused olive oil with chilli and mint. The outdoor terrace is expected to open in April.
