Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said on Thursday that 10 people were arrested during overnight operations involving traffic checks, building inspections and enforcement actions across Cyprus. The arrests were linked to offences including handling stolen goods, residing in Cyprus without the required documents, failure to appear in court, assaulting a police officer, drug possession and carrying a knife.

Police said the overnight operations resulted in 10 arrests. The offences involved included handling stolen goods, living in Cyprus without the requisite residence documents, failure to appear in court, assaulting a police officer, drug possession and carrying a knife.
Checks and inspections
During the operations, officers stopped and checked 573 drivers and 143 passengers. They also carried out 37 building inspections, which resulted in six complaints.
Traffic enforcement
Traffic checks led to 283 citations for various offences. Of those cited, 93 drivers were caught speeding. Officers also seized six vehicles as part of the inspections.
Alcohol and drug tests
A total of 91 alcohol tests were conducted, resulting in two citations. Two drivers also tested positive in preliminary drug tests.
