Police investigate Larnaca crash that left 66-year-old woman critically injured

Larnaca, Cyprus. Police are investigating the cause of a road accident on Sunday in Larnaca in which a 66-year-old woman was critically injured. Six people were taken to hospital following the collision.


Collision on Yiannos Kranidiotis avenue

Police said the accident occurred around noon on Sunday on Yiannos Kranidiotis avenue. A car driven by a 70-year-old man, with his 66-year-old wife as a passenger, collided with a car driven by a 40-year-old man, who had his wife, 45, and their two children, aged eight and four, as passengers.

Car struck electricity pylon after crash

After the collision, police said the 40-year-old’s car hit a nearby electricity pylon.

Rescue and hospital treatment

The 66-year-old woman was trapped in the car and the fire brigade was called to release her. All six people were taken by ambulance to Larnaca general hospital.

The 66-year-old woman was intubated and transferred to Nicosia general hospital in critical condition. The 45-year-old woman, who suffered a leg injury, along with her husband and youngest child, remain in hospital for observation. The 70-year-old man and the eight-year-old child were treated and discharged.
