Paphos, Cyprus. Police on Thursday said they were investigating a complaint by a 50-year-old man from Emba village who reported being swindled out of €6,860 by a caller posing as a Revolut employee. The call appeared on his phone as “Revolut Bank,” authorities said.
Complaint and alleged scam
Authorities said an unknown person contacted the man by phone claiming to work with Revolut and told him suspicious activity had been detected in his account, including alleged attempts by third parties to gain access. The caller then asked for personal information, including access codes, under the pretext of securing the account.
The man provided the requested details, believing he was speaking with a genuine company representative. He later noticed that funds had been transferred out of his account, police said.
Police advice to the public
Police advised the public not to disclose sensitive information such as passwords over the phone, saying banks and financial institutions do not ask for access codes or PIN numbers by phone.
