Police report €10,010 stolen after scam message posing as Gesy

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said more than €10,000 was stolen from a citizen’s bank account after they received messages allegedly sent by the national health scheme (Gesy) requesting an online profile update.

Reported incident and alleged method

Police said the complainant reported the incident on Wednesday, adding that it occurred on November 17, 2025.
According to the complainant, they received a message purporting to be from Gesy, asking them to edit their bank details and directing them to a website via a link.

Financial loss

Police said the complainant accessed the website and provided financial information, supposedly for a payment of 10 euros to continue renewing their profile.
After the details were entered, perpetrators withdrew 10,010 euros from the account.

Police advice to the public

As a protective measure against online fraud, police urged citizens to be vigilant, particularly when receiving messages containing electronic links.
Police recommended avoiding such links and never entering personal or banking details on unknown websites.
They also advised verifying information through organisations’ or companies’ notified communication channels before any online transaction or payment.

Guidance for affected citizens

Police urged anyone who has declared banking details through such messages to inform their bank immediately to prevent illegal use of their details.

Investigation

Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
