Larnaca, Cyprus. Police are searching for a 38-year-old man after firearms and ammunition were found during a court-authorised search of a residence on Thursday. Investigators believe the weapons were concealed at the home by the elderly resident’s grandson.
Weapons discovery
Officers found two automatic firearms, including a G3 military rifle, a pistol and a large quantity of cartridges at the residence.
Police spokesman Kyriakos Theodorou told Omega that the elderly woman was not believed to be involved in the case. Investigators are focusing on her 38-year-old grandson as the person allegedly linked to the weapons.
Ongoing examinations
Theodorou said the suspect had used the residence to hide the firearms and was known to police in connection with various cases.
Authorities are conducting DNA and ballistic examinations to determine whether the weapons are linked to previous criminal activity or were intended for future use.
Tests are also being carried out on the G3 rifle to establish whether it was legally registered to the suspect as a reserve weapon or had been obtained through theft.
Search for suspect
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue efforts to locate and arrest the 38-year-old suspect.
