Police warn of fraudulent websites offering UK visas and targeting applicants’ bank accounts

London, United Kingdom. Police on Tuesday warned that members of the public have reported being defrauded by websites purporting to offer visas for entry to the United Kingdom. They advised people to exercise caution when attempting to acquire visas.

Complaint about lookalike visa website

Police said they had received a complaint regarding a website which resembles the official United Kingdom website through which applications for entry into the country are accepted.

Applicants’ personal and banking details used to extract money

They said applicants proceed with the process for issuing an entry permit on the website, entering personal information as well as banking details. Police said would-be applicants who entered their details then had their bank accounts raided, with perpetrators succeeding in extracting sums of money.

Public urged to verify identities via official channels

Police warned the public to be cautious in their transactions and to verify the identity or status of individuals or organisations with which they communicate or conduct transactions, including by using official communication channels.

Have you verified that any visa-related website you use is an official platform before entering personal or banking details?
