Reported Greek crime figure “Edik” said to be in custody of UAE authorities

Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A man known as “Edik,” also known as “Foni” (“Voice”), who is reportedly considered the leader of a criminal organisation mainly composed of Greeks from former Soviet Union countries, is said to be in the custody of United Arab Emirates authorities. The reported arrest in Dubai has not been officially confirmed.

Greek authorities await confirmation

Greek authorities sent a relevant document after receiving the information but had not received a response, according to the report.

According to competent sources, the man has disappeared from his usual haunts and the places he used to frequent in Dubai.

Allegations against the organisation

The organisation is reported to have gained control of tobacco product smuggling. Its members are accused of extortion, kidnapping, bombings, arson, assault and threats, as well as carrying out “contract killings” against members of the so-called Greek Mafia.

Operations directed from Dubai

The man is reported to have directed and coordinated the organisation’s activities from Dubai. Despite the distance, he is said to have retained full control and issued specific orders.

According to Hellenic Police (ELAS) officers, this remote command showed the organisation’s developed structure, which operated with strict hierarchy and strategy and sought to establish dominance through fear, intimidation and violence.

According to the same officers, his orders and coordination ensured the continued expansion and success of the organisation’s criminal activity nationally.
