Copenhagen, Denmark. A humpback whale rescued in Germany and released into the North Sea was found dead near Denmark’s Anholt island, Denmark’s environmental protection agency said.
Discovery near Anholt
The Danish environmental protection agency said the whale found near Anholt was the same animal that had become stranded in Germany and had been the focus of major rescue efforts.
Stranding in Germany and rescue efforts
The young male whale, referred to as Timmi by German media, was first found trapped on a sandbank on March 23 in the Bay of Wismar on Germany’s Baltic coast.
After several failed attempts to free it, the whale was guided onto a water-filled barge and transferred to the North Sea, where it was released on May 2.
