Nicosia, Cyprus. A Romanian national was remanded for two days by Nicosia district court on Tuesday, a day after he was arrested at the Ledra Street crossing point during routine pedestrian checks. Customs officers found 15kg of untaxed rolling tobacco in two pieces of luggage.

Customs officers selected the individual for inspection as he was carrying two pieces of luggage from the north to the south during routine checks of pedestrians.
Seizure of untaxed tobacco
The inspection found the luggage contained only untaxed packages of rolling tobacco for cigarettes, with a total weight of 15kg. The man was taken into custody while the luggage and its contents were confiscated.
Investigation and alleged travel plan
Preliminary investigations indicate the man received the luggage containing tobacco in the north and was intending to transport it through Paphos Airport to the United Kingdom.
