Savannah Guthrie appeals for contact in case of missing mother in Arizona

Tucson, United States. NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie posted a video on Wednesday urging anyone who may be holding her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, to make contact as investigators treat the case as a suspected kidnapping. Authorities said Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home near Tucson earlier this week.

Family appeal and investigation

In the video message posted to Instagram, Savannah Guthrie asked for confirmation that her mother is alive and requested communication. She appeared alongside her brother and sister and said the family was ready to listen.

The appeal came three days after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing by family members. The elder Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after relatives dropped her off at home following dinner, and she was reported missing the next day.

Police activity and federal assistance

The video coincided with a two-hour period of heightened police activity at Nancy Guthrie’s home, where yellow crime-scene tape was placed around the property for the first time this week and investigators were seen entering and leaving the house. FBI agents are assisting in the investigation.

Ransom note reports and health concerns

Savannah Guthrie said the family had seen media reports of a ransom note but noted that electronic images can be manipulated or faked.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie had limited mobility and could not have left her home unassisted, and that investigators were treating her disappearance as a kidnapping. Savannah Guthrie said her mother depends on daily medication and described her health as fragile, adding that she was without her medicine.

What do you think authorities and families should prioritize to help establish communication in a suspected kidnapping case?
