Akrotiri, Cyprus. The Sovereign Base Areas Administration has introduced four specialised patrol vehicles and new operational equipment for civil enforcement wardens in Dhekelia and Akrotiri, aiming to strengthen law enforcement, environmental protection and community engagement.
New equipment introduced
The vehicles are now operational and will be used by Area Office Civil Wardens during patrols to detect and address administrative and environmental offences.
Officers have also received body-worn cameras, digital cameras and protective vests.
Enforcement and environmental protection
Akrotiri Area Officer George Kiteos said the investment reflected the SBA Administration’s commitment to enforcing the law, protecting the environment and serving the public.
He said the additional equipment would improve teams’ ability to respond to offences including illegal developments, unauthorised structures and activities affecting protected beaches.
Kiteos said the administration was committed to fair, professional and transparent enforcement, while prioritising public safety, environmental protection and responsible use of the areas.
Community presence
Dhekelia Area Officer Maria Pieri-Kyriakidou described the patrol vehicles as a significant enhancement to the capabilities of the administration’s Civil Enforcement Wardens.
She said the vehicles would enable officers to maintain a stronger presence across the Bases, engage more effectively with local communities and provide a more responsive service.
Civil Enforcement Wardens regularly engage with residents, identify and report offences, and support compliance with SBA legislation, she said.
