Shipping Deputy Ministry advances plans for new headquarters at former Nemitsa factory site in Limassol

Limassol, Cyprus. Plans to relocate the Shipping Deputy Ministry to a new headquarters at the former Nemitsa factory site in Limassol are moving forward as the government reviews the proposed development in a growing business district.

Consultations and expected approval timeline

The Deputy Ministry told Entrepreneurial Limassol, a periodical published by the Limassol Chamber of Commerce (Evel), that it is in consultations with the Finance Ministry regarding a project concept note that has been submitted and is under review by the relevant department. The Deputy Ministry said efforts are being made to move the project forward as quickly as possible, with approval from the Directorate General Growth of the Finance Ministry expected within about a month.

Consolidating services into one building

The relocation is considered important because the Deputy Ministry’s services are currently housed in different buildings that no longer adequately meet its operational needs. The aim is to bring all departments under one roof in a building better suited to the ministry’s work and to make full use of the Nemitsa land plot, which was granted to the Shipping Deputy Ministry by a Council of Ministers decision for the construction of new premises.

Area regeneration and development context

The project is expected to contribute to the regeneration of the surrounding area, where high-rise buildings and mixed-use developments worth many millions of euros are under construction or planned. The transformation of the area around the new Limassol port and Tsiflikoudia into a new business and financial district is already under way.

Environmental review and upcoming studies

An environmental study has been prepared for the project and submitted to the department of environment for review and comments. Once the relevant approval is secured, further studies are expected to follow, including a feasibility study.

Broader significance

Beyond accommodation needs, the project is seen as an opportunity for Limassol to host the city’s only Deputy Ministry in a modern and emblematic building reflecting the prestige of the Republic of Cyprus and the importance of the maritime sector.

What do you think the new headquarters could mean for the development of the area around the new Limassol port and Tsiflikoudia?
