Nicosia, Cyprus. A new solar farm built atop the Nicosia General Hospital’s western car park was unveiled on Thursday in the presence of Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides. The installation has a capacity of 1.3 MWp and cost €1.8 million plus value added tax.

Project features and cost

The solar panels were installed on top of shading structures above parking spaces in the hospital’s western car park. LED lights were also installed in the area, which the state health services organisation said was done to enhance the safety of pedestrians and drivers.

Expected impact

The state health services organisation said that with the solar farm now operational, it will achieve a substantial reduction in energy costs and carbon dioxide emissions. It added that the use of renewable energy sources enhances the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation and allows for the reinvestment of resources in upgrades to health services.

Further initiatives

The organisation said further rollouts of similar initiatives are expected in due course.
