Stelios Bi-Communal Awards vision presented in Nicosia ahead of June 2026 ceremony

Nicosia, Cyprus. Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou presented the vision, philosophy and long-term development of the Stelios Bi-Communal Awards for Business Co-operation in Cyprus during an event in Nicosia this week. The presentation came ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled for June 8, 2026.

Event and participants

Haji-Ioannou, creator and owner of the easy family of brands (www.easy.com and www.easyHistory.info) and founder and chairman of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation (www.steliosfoundation.com.cy), delivered his remarks via a live Zoom connection.

The event took place at the headquarters of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation in Nicosia and drew representation from the business community, focusing on the role of business in shaping conditions of cooperation and stability that support Cyprus’ economic development.

Business leaders attended alongside the leadership of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev), the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.

Focus on cooperation and impact

Haji-Ioannou presented the broader activities of the foundation and emphasised the Bi-Communal Awards’ role in supporting peace and economic progress across both communities.

“The awards are not merely an annual ceremony, but a constant reminder that cooperation between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot entrepreneurs can build relationships of trust that stand the test of time, transcending dividing lines, even when politics fails to do so,” he said.

Now in their 16th year, the Stelios Bi-Communal Awards are among the longest-running institutions of bi-communal cooperation in Cyprus. Haji-Ioannou said that including this year’s prize fund of €500,000, the total value awarded since the initiative launched has reached €5.3 million.

Call for more applications

Rena Rouvitha Panou, a member of the board of directors of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, said the objective of the event was to “inspire, motivate and encourage a steadily growing number of bi-communal teams to apply and participate in the Bi-Communal Awards for Business Co-operation.”

She said the process can foster strong business partnerships between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, strengthening mutual trust.
