Athens, Greece. Violent weather has swept across parts of Greece, causing flooding, road closures and landslides, with authorities reporting widespread damage and multiple incidents. Officials said response teams remain on alert in affected areas.
Larissa region hit hard
The storm struck areas of Larissa with particular force, especially in Agiokampos, where the sea surged inland. Floodwaters entered homes and shops, and heavy rain combined with strong winds worsened conditions. Crews from the Thessaly Region and the municipality of Agia remained on alert, and reports also indicated flooded farmland.
Agia mayor Antonis Gountaras told onlarissa that large volumes of water flowing down from the mountains forced the closure of all sections of the coastal road where streams cross it. He said the amount of water that fell in Potamia was “unbelievable,” possibly more than during Daniel, adding that traffic has shifted to the road network behind the bridges.
Gountaras said landslides occurred on the road towards Paliouria within Melivoia and on the Megalovryso–Anatoli road.
Trikala reports conditions under control
Heavy rainfall caused problems in parts of Trikala, but authorities said the situation is now under control after interventions.
In the Meteora municipality, heavy rain disrupted rural roads linking livestock facilities in the Hasia municipal unit. Overflowing rivers caused issues in settlements including Gerakari, Agioi Theodoroi and Theopetra, which officials said were addressed.
Trikala mayor Nikos Sakkas told the Athens–Macedonian News Agency that conditions in the Municipality of Trikala remain manageable despite intense rainfall and swollen rivers, with minor problems resolved through immediate action by the competent authorities.
Deputy regional governor of Trikala Chrysa Dinti told the same agency that the overall situation across the regional unit is under control, adding that the Trikala regional mechanism remains on alert and intervenes where needed.
Problems persist in Lemnos
Conditions remained difficult in Myrina on the island of Lemnos, where persistent rain caused dozens of problems. Reports said at least four homes were affected by floodwater. Fire Service crews assisted residents and pumped out water.
