Surveys: One-third of people and over half of businesses in Cyprus hit by cyberattacks in past year

Nicosia, Cyprus. Two nationwide surveys by the Communications Commissioner and the Digital Security Authority found that one in three people and more than half of businesses in Cyprus were affected by cyberattacks over the past 12 months.

Cyberattacks reported by individuals and businesses

The surveys found that 33 per cent of people experienced a cyberattack over the last year, while almost half of companies reported at least one breach.

A business-focused survey was conducted between September and November 2025 using a sample of 459 companies across industry, trade and services. A second survey of individuals was carried out during August and September 2025 using a sample of 1,043 individuals.

Among businesses, 53 per cent in 2025 reported suffering an attack or breach in the previous 12 months, compared with 47 per cent in 2024 and 49 per cent in 2023.

Minimum wages directive draft law presented

Cyprus moved a step closer to adopting a long-delayed EU directive on adequate minimum wages as an updated draft law was presented to social partners, with disagreements between employers and unions still unresolved.

The proposed Adequate Minimum Wages Law of 2025 aims to improve living and working conditions by ensuring statutory minimum wages are sufficient to secure a decent standard of living, contribute to upward social convergence and reduce wage inequality.

The revised bill was discussed before representatives of employers and trade unions following earlier meetings in January under the auspices of the director of the Department of Labour Relations, when employer organisations first voiced strong reservations.

Fiscal Council projects further decline in public debt

The Cyprus Fiscal Council said on Wednesday that national public debt remains on a downward trajectory and is expected to fall below 60 per cent of GDP once official figures for 2025 are finalised.

“The downward trend of the debt will continue in 2026 and probably in 2027,” said Cyprus Fiscal Council chairman Michalis Persianis.
