Nonthaburi, Thailand. A student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School on Friday, killing at least one teacher and injuring four other people before killing himself, authorities said.

The injured included one teacher and three students, according to Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee.

Police response

The shooting occurred in Bang Kruai district in Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok. Police identified the gunman as a student.

Lt. Col. Dechrapee confirmed the casualties to Reuters and said the suspected gunman had died by suicide.

Witness account

An 18-year-old student said he initially believed the sounds were firecrackers or someone banging an object.

“I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he told Reuters. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”

School evacuation

Photos circulated by emergency workers showed students leaving the school on Bangkok’s northwestern outskirts as ambulances operated outside.

One image showed a person lying on a stretcher outside an ambulance while another person was treated by a medic.

District authorities said the school had about 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.

Previous shooting

In February, a teacher was killed and a student injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand.
